The Surrey branch of the MFC ....

. .invited 12 disabled/ disadvantaged children from two schools: - Kings College for the Arts & Technology, Guildford & The Park School, Surrey Woking Surrey for a day’s fly fishing and a real countryside experience at Vale End Fishery in Albury Surrey; four of whom were in wheelchairs.

Tan-y-Mynydd fisheryAlthough the weather was unkind in the morning, it slowly improved as the children’s experience of learning to fly-fish started to pay off. By the time they joined us at midday (for a superb barbeque lunch, provided by the club’s mobile kitchen) the children with the help of their assigned casters had already started catching some sizable fish.

At the end of their visit each young participant was presented with a certificate as a souvenir of the day; those who excelled in their casting and retrieving were also presented with a beautifully crafted medal as a special award. Finally each child returned home with a smile on their face and a freshly caught fish to present to their families/ schools for cooking of their prize catch!
